Personalized M&Ms Candies Made Simple and Elegant DIY Wedding Favors

Brides to be, Mothers of the Brides to be, Planners of the Brides to be, and other wedding planners all look for the perfect wedding favors to give to each person who attends the wedding reception.

Wedding planning statistics show that most wedding guests prefer edible wedding favors, which come in an unlimited variety of options. Many of the weddings we plan include as many DIY projects as possible in order to keep the costs as low as possible, yet provide an elegant wedding favor for everyone to take with them from the wedding—then later enjoy the treat and a special memory from the wedding ceremony or the reception that followed.  These wedding favors could be home made treats like cookies or jams and jellies, to wedding photos of the bride and groom for guests, to personalized M&Ms candies—like we used at our last wedding.  Personalized M&Ms candies are a perfect selection for providing simple and elegant wedding favors for your wedding guests.  We were amazed to see how many colors and personalization options are available for the M&Ms!  Our bride’s and groom’s faces were even pictured on some of the M&Ms, along with their wedding date, and a couple of other options that were right for us.  You can almost pick whatever you want on them!

For the wedding we helped coordinate in June 2012, the wedding planning team presented a number of options to the bride, which had to be simple and elegant, and within the budget, for her to consider it.  Since the aesthetic appeal and the time required to prepare the favor for the wedding were major factors in this wedding, ordering personalized M&Ms candies about three to four weeks before the wedding, gave us the perfect personalized favors to share with everyone at the wedding.

Simply click on the M&Ms banner to get your personalized order for your special occasion!  See for yourself how quickly they can ship your M&Ms featuring your pictures, special dates, or initials.

Personalized MY M&M'S® Candies

M&Ms offer so many options for personalizing favors for your special occasion.  The color selection is unreal, so whatever your color scheme is, we are sure you can find a M&Ms color to match your scheme.  The favors from our June wedding were in formal attire like the bride and groom, but go to the M&Ms site to buy favors for your next occasion, whether formal or informal.

P. S.  Buy your wedding favor boxes or holders out of season or whenever you see them on sale for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, or for other regularly celebrated occasions to save on the cost of the favor.

Assign a Coordinator for DIY Wedding Volunteers

Should I Use Your Creativity?

When DIY wedding plans are being made, all of your close friends and many family members want to have an active role in preparing for the big day.  You will have some people who have real skills and experiences you can benefit from, while there will be others who are right in the middle of the planning and preparation who are just interjecting their opinions on what you should do, but you don’t really value those opinions.  You will have those who want to receive assignments to complete, and others who want to take over the planning and preparations.  But, have you ever heard the saying “there are too many cooks in the kitchen?”

Coordinate, Plan, Execute

If the bride chooses to extend an invitation to all of the invited guests to help with the DIY wedding decorating, be sure to appoint a coordinator to organize all of the volunteers and assignments that must be completed.  The bride should select someone to coordinate the hundreds of tasks that must be completed in preparation for that special day.  Otherwise, there will be mass chaos as individuals try to figure out what to do next.  Assign someone who is well organized and who knows what the bride’s desires and expectations are for her special day.  In a DIY wedding situation, those extra hands can really come in handy.

Share some of your experiences with us.  We would love to hear from you.

Silver Nail Polish: A Great Selection for the Wedding Day

Model is wearing OPI “Your Royal Shine-ness” Polish

Bold and Beautiful

Brides wear all colors of nail polish on their Wedding day.  Some brides select French manicures, soft shades of pink or more natural colors for their wedding day, while other brides select darker more daring colors to include dark blues and even black.  But silver nail polish is a beautiful and elegant option for the wedding day.

Wedding Polish Options

It doesn’t matter if your wedding colors are white or even black, silver nail polish looks like beautiful, elegant shiny pearls on your fingers and toes that pick up the hues from whatever your chosen color selection is.  It matches everything!  My first thought was that it may be a little too showy, but after seeing silver nail polish with the most beautiful traditional gowns as well as darker less traditional wedding dresses, silver nail polish looks soft and elegant—just what you would want for your wedding day.

Your Day to Shine

Silver nail polish is gorgeous and blends in with all color selections.  Do you like silver nail polish for the wedding day color choice?  If you like this silver nail polish for the wedding day, like this blog.  If you don’t like silver nail polish for the wedding day, what color do you prefer?  Leave us a comment; we would love to hear from you.

Make a Quick DIY Chair Cover Option for the Wedding

It is unfortunate that even with the best planned weddings, you can be assured something will not go according to the plan.  So, the key to keeping the stress level down for the bride and groom and the invited guests is for the planner or coordinator to make prompt decisions to appease the bride and offer solutions or compromises where they can be made.

Oh No!  No Chair Covers?!?!

For one of our recent DIY (Do -It-Yourself) Weddings, all of the bride’s DIY wedding projects were completed on schedule and the ordered items arrived item by item . . . with the exception of the chair covers.  Oh no!  The room was beautifully decorated, but there was one obvious item missing that would have made the beautiful room even more elegant.  Two days before the wedding it was confirmed that the vendor was not going to get the ordered chair covers to us in time.  So for two days we searched tirelessly for a vendor who could provide the needed number of chair covers, but to no avail.

Wedding Planner to the Rescue

When we couldn’t identify a new chair cover vendor at the last minute, we made a couple of quick options of tulle ribbons or a combination of tulle and flowers  as chair cover options for the bride to consider us making for each chair.  The bride, though disappointed that the original vendor failed to provide the ordered chair covers, was pleased with the tulle and flowers as a chair cover option for the wedding.  She also decided she only wanted those for the head tables where everyone’s attention was focused for the most part.  It was a quick DIY chair cover option, but it added some elegance to the uncovered chairs and calmed the bride’s anxiety.

DIY Flowers for the Wedding are an Economical, Easy and Elegant Option

At the end of June, a member of the Custom Flowers and Weddings family had the most beautiful DIY wedding ever!  The flowers for the wedding were beautiful: they were elegant, easy to make, and at a very reasonable price.  The comparison in the prices of these artificial flowers for the wedding and live flowers for the wedding weren’t even in the same ball park. But, some individuals had to actually touch the flowers for the wedding to be sure if they were live flowers or not.  Our DIY Diva did an excellent job on each of the DIY projects, and we had a ball decorating the wedding venue with them.  You can view many of those DIY projects in Custom Flowers and Weddings’ new DIY project gallery.

DIY projects may take a little time and effort, but can save you hundreds of dollars on your flowers for the wedding.

If you want to learn how to make some of these beautiful and economical DIY projects, watch for our upcoming step by step instructional blogs, send us questions, or contact our site if you are interested in having our DIY Diva make elegant and economical flowers for your wedding or special occasion.

We would love to have your feedback and hear your comments on our DIY projects!

“Invitations for the Wedding” Blog Spurs Etiquette Questions

We recently released a blog about invitations for the wedding that has led to a number of questions coming forth from couples who are preparing for their special day.  Based on these inquiries, we are going to release a series of blogs that pertain to invitation etiquette as well as less traditional aspects that now must be considered when buying invitations for the wedding and mailing them out.

Invitations for the Wedding Wording Etiquette

Some of the less traditional aspects to be considered when selecting invitations for the wedding, and which we will blog about, include:  “Should We Buy Invitations for the Wedding If the Engagement Is Short?” “Is E-mail an Appropriate Option for Sending Out Invitations for the Wedding? “ “What Wording Must Be Included in the Invitations for the Wedding?” “What Do You Say on the Invitations for the Wedding When You Only Have One Parent?”  “What Do You Say on the Invitations for the Wedding When the Bride’s Parents are Divorced or When the Bride Has Stepparents?” “What are the Guidelines for Invitations for the Wedding to a Same Sex Marriage?” “What is the Proper Way to Address Invitations for the Wedding?” “What Do We Do When We Cancel the Wedding After the Invitations for the Wedding Have Already Gone Out?”

Wedding Announcements and Wedding Invitations for Your Special Day

Wedding Invitation by www.invitationconsultants.com

Wedding announcements are commonly used to share the great news of your wedding, and wedding invitations are used to invite those near and dear to the bride and groom to share your special day with you.  You can find a number of wedding invitations and wedding announcement vendors on this site to view options and place your order today.  The wedding announcement is a way to share your good news with people who are not included on the invitation list, like friends and family who live far away from where the wedding will take place, business associates and other acquaintances. The wedding invitation will provide your guests who you want to attend your wedding with all of the information they will need to plan for attendance, attire, travel if necessary, as well as the theme, tone and formality (or informality) of the big day.  While both the wedding announcements and the wedding invitations let all of your friends and family know about your wedding, the big difference in the wedding announcements and the wedding invitations is that the wedding invitations go out to your invited guests about six to eight weeks prior to the wedding, and the wedding announcements are usually mailed out a day or two after the wedding occurs.

Though there are many traditional options for style and wording for the wedding invitations and the announcements, today’s wedding invitations and wedding announcements can range from much more creative styles and formats, to phone calls for spur of the moment weddings, and even e-mailed styles.  Check our featured vendors to view the unlimited options for paper, typefaces and printing options for your perfect wedding announcements and wedding invitations.

Follow our blogs for upcoming topics to address more specific information about wedding invitations and wedding announcements.  Or, send us your specific questions as they relate to any aspect of your wedding invitations and/or announcements, or any wedding topic to www.customflowersandweddings.com.

Wedding Favors

Wedding favors are available for your special day in a large variety of types and styles. Our vendors, such as The Knot, feature hundreds of choices to add a little merriment to what can sometimes be a very serious day of ceremonious events.

Wedding Bubbles as an Option

Providing favors for the wedding guests to shower the bride and groom as they leave their wedding reception gives guests an opportunity to take an active role in the festivities. The use of rice, birdseed or rose petals to shower the bride and groom are old traditional celebratory symbols that many of today’s venues will not allow the use of. Chief among the reasoning behind discouraging these selections is the very costly cleanup of these items at the end of the day. But, using wedding bubbles is a much more practical option for showering the bride and groom. The Knot and other featured vendors offer an array of these wedding bubbles at a very affordable price. Not only do wedding bubbles promote the guests’ interaction, a personalized wedding bubble container can serve as a keepsake; providing memories of the wedding day for years to come.

Selecting Your Wedding Cake

Wedding cakes are one of the main attractions in many wedding receptions.  Wedding cakes are more than something to feast on; wedding cakes have become an essential part of the decorations for your big day.  The decorations are one of the first things guests buzz about, and just how magnificent your wedding cake looks and tastes will leave a lasting impression on your guests.  As you can see in our wedding cake gallery, there are so many different options for wedding cakes as it relates to the look and design of the cake.  There is also a large variety of wedding cake flavors, so choosing the right cake can be a very arduous task.  With a little patience and the quick tips below, selecting the perfect wedding cake should be as easy as walking down the aisle.

Choose the Right Bakeshop

If you have an idea on where the best bakery is in your city, then head to that place immediately.  You can print a cake from our wedding cake gallery, ask for suggestions from your friends or family members, or select a design from the bakeshop.  It would be best to make a reservation at the bakeshop to be sure the baker has adequate time to discuss design and flavor options with you.  Do not procrastinate; you should do this early on in your planning.  Depending on the size of your city, the availability of cake decorators may be restricted.  Be sure to give a detailed description of exactly what you want your cake to be, and give the vendor ample time to prepare.  Approximately six months ahead of your wedding day should be adequate.  You may be required to pay a small deposit to secure your order.

The Right Taste

No matter what design you select for your wedding cake, keep in mind that cakes are made primarily for eating.  They should taste good as well as look good. The texture and flavor of the cake itself is very important.  When scouting for a bakeshop, don’t hesitate to ask for cake samples of the flavor options. If a bakeshop does not allow this, keep shopping around.

Stay Within Your Budget

Simple wedding cakes can easily range from $300 to $1000 or so.  The cost primarily depends on the cake design you select in addition to the cake decorator’s fee, the cake itself and in many instances a delivery and setup fee.  Always determine your budget ahead of time and inquire about all associated fees so you can stay within your predetermined budget.  If the shop offers free delivery service, this will cut down on the cost and provide an edge for a particular bakeshop.  Your selected bakeshop should be able to provide the standard number of servings for each cake type to assist you in determining an adequate number of cakes needed to serve all of your guests.  You will need to know how many guests plan to attend your wedding before the cake order is placed.

Flowers as Wedding Cake Decorations

Flowers have long been a wedding tradition for bouquets and centerpieces. But you can also use flowers to decorate the cakes too. Either fresh flowers or artificial flowers can serve as a beautiful addition to your cakes. But if fresh flowers are used, it is very important that you choose them wisely. Be sure that your fresh flower selection is free from chemicals. Another, more common, flower option for your wedding cake is the use of sugar flowers.  Experienced bakeshops can make sugar flowers that look almost like fresh flowers, but are safer and are usually made from an edible gum paste.

Wedding Cake Placement

Always be mindful of where within the wedding venue you set up the wedding cake display.  It is advisable to find a cool place for displaying your cakes—preferably not outside in the summer heat or in direct sunlight.  Intense heat could melt or damage the cakes’ frosting and wilt any fresh flowers used in decorating your wedding cakes.  Be sure your cake display is properly located to preserve the beauty and taste. It is also recommended that the wedding cake display is not placed near the dance floor or where there is a heavy flow of traffic. You certainly don’t want to risk the chance of someone bumping the cake display and making the cake display fall down. Make sure the table and the display stands are all sturdy at the onset.

Wedding cake shopping can be a fun and hassle-free experience for the bride, the groom and other members of the wedding party. Remember, your wedding cakes should add to the wedding décor and will most likely appear in your wedding photos.  Choose the perfect wedding cake to enhance the overall décor for your special day and leave your guests in awe by the statement your cake makes.
